Gloss Button & Icon

Frankly speaking, this tutorial is my way of doing this kind of icon in Illustrator. Someone out there might have a better way of doing it. If you have any suggestion or question, feel free to add a comment or leave a message at the Chat Box.
Let's start from the easy one... Green Button

This is a tutorial that teach you how to make Gloss icon or Button for your websites.

**Basic understanding on Adobe Illustrator is needed.

1. Create 2 round shape with no filling with the elipse tool. The bigger one is at the back of the smaller one.

Tips: Ctrl + C (copy) then Ctrl + F (paste on same location) will do you a favour by drawing a same circle for you. Simple Alt + Shift and drag it smaller.

2. Create another elipse and centralize then all with the Align window. The smaller elipse u create now is to make the shining part of the button.

3. Fill the bigger round shape wif dark color. my example will be c100 y100 k 20.

4. Fill the inner round share with gradient. my color coding for the light green is c60 y100. toning it to y100 (yellow). Change the gradient TYPE to RADIAL.

5. Using gradient tool at the tool box, let's reposition the yellow toning to the bottom of the round shape by draging a line. (The starting point will be the center of the yellow toning)

6. Fill the smaller elipse (the shining part) with LINEAR gradient. Toning color code is pure white to c60 y100. Let's change the angle of the toning to 270 degrees, so that the white will be on top and green will be at the bottom.

If you are using other color such as RED for your button, tone the white to RED. if you are using blue, tone it to blue.

7. Let's take away all the black outline.

8. Now the lighting part on the elipse. Select the elipse on top and go to your TRANSPARENCY WINDOW. Let's change the atribute from NORMAL to LIGHTEN. Change the OPACITY to 70%

You may try some other effects later and these effects can do maverlous for you.

9. The button is done 80%. Let's put in some icon with white outline into the button. Using dark green (c100 y100 k 20) as the main color of your icon. (You can try this with other colors such as White or Yellow)

10. Select the elipse and bring it to the Front by selecting your elipse, right click on it, and the list will pop out a list as shown like the picture on top.

Arranging your shapes is important when you comes to illustrating in Illustrator. You need to know which shape comes first and which shape is at the back. Arranging shapes is a often used skill in illustrator, so I recommend begginers to memorize the short cut key of it. Ctrl + ], Ctrl+ [, Ctrl + Shift + ] or Ctrl + Shift + [.

11. Let's do some small changes so that it looks nicer. Shift select the elipse and make it bigger. NOW you are DONE.

12. With this icon or button, you can also make quite alot of icon for it. Simply changing the color of the Button and you will have a series of your own buttons or icon for your website or designs. Well on the next tutorial, we will go deeper to make cooler buttons. (the blue one).
